Choose Your Word

"For last year's words belong to last year's language and next year's words await another voice." ~ T.S. Eliot

In the final week of each year, I meditate upon gratitude as I begin to look forward to setting intentions for the year incoming.

I know that words are powerful containers and that which is spoken consistently over our lives manifests our reality and five years out from the events that triggered my most intense crises of healing, I have learned so much about this power.

As a result, as the eve of a new year approaches, I choose a one word mantra of focus to speak into the circumstances of my life.

The first two years following my crises, the only word I could muster any amount of focus upon was "survival." Survival would serve as my one word beacon until I finally stopped holding my breath and the word "awakening" emerged.

Soon after, "revival" revealed itself and the possibility that my state of being could change lit a candle of hope in my being.  By the time "recovery", and "realignment" arrived I had begun to discover a renewed sense of purpose.

Surviving that dark night of the soul has given me an undeniable experience with the healing grace of God. When my cross was at its heaviest, the Creator proved his love consistently and I can now thrive in the space between survival and creation.

God is truly good and I am grateful for how far I have come.

This year I look forward to living in "co-creation." There are mountains yet to climb, but I now know when to admit I am tired, when to ask for help, and how to rest.

In the remaining hours before welcoming the expectancy of a year filled with new beginnings, choose your word. It is a time for planting new seed in the fertile soil of a new year.

Choose your word.

What one word mantra defined your life this past year?
Do you need a new word spoken over your life in the coming year?

Recover Yourself!

Introduction

There is a force within that gives you life; seek that.
~ Rumi

"Thank God it's Friday!" is a familiar four-word refrain understood across cultures. For those balancing the responsibilities of work, school, family, second jobs, and side gigs, the anticipation of Friday carries the weight of the entire work week.

Commitment to our work is imperative, however, we must also make self-care a priority. If the mind is not well, we are without clarity. If the body is sick, our daily functioning is limited, and if we are weak spiritually, we are unable to receive guidance.

Attempts at living within imbalance carry steep consequences over the long term.

When attention is not paid to the mini glitches in the matrix of life our lifelines can become frayed and fail us.

Life is filled with setbacks; some greater than others. With this knowledge, we must determine to be mindful of our capacity for recovery. Each trial exposes areas of weakness in our game plan.

Our strategies don’t have to be perfect, but we should be prepared to address our challenges. When we are not we risk breakdowns of incapacity that threaten to paralyze us and prevent us from moving forward.

A danger foreseen is half-avoided. ~ Cheyenne Proverb

My grandmother is the most resilient woman I have ever known and her wisdom and determination empower my days and nights yet still.

From a young girl growing up in the segregated south during the Great Depression, she farmed, did laundry, cooked, baked, kept houses, tended children and made everything from butter and soap to corn liquor. She never slowed down, and an attack on her brain was the ultimate result.

The reward for a young life committed to hard work in hard times were three strokes that left her paralyzed on her left side and unable to speak. When she woke up in the hospital, she saw her husband and their three young children staring down at her.  All were terrified.

"That's when I knew," she'd said, "I knew that whatever it took, I had to get out of that bed. My family needed me. I was barely alive, but I had to live for them."

Balance is a necessity and we must seek it in every aspect of our lives. When it is not a priority, we decrease our opportunities to experience joy in our work, home, and family life.

Most times, we do not hate our jobs or our lives, we have just allowed the frustration that goes along with depletion of resources to dominate our experience. When this occurs, our peace is disturbed and resentments set in. Our resources are our minds, our bodies, and our spirits and we must preserve and protect them.

At the time, my grandmother knew she had to recover, to overcome this episode that had flattened her and threatened the livelihood of her family and the future of her children. It was in that moment she decided to fight and became determined she could. And with the help of Almighty God, she would recover.

She also knew how the industrious drive in her nature had kept her so focused on her responsibilities that she neglected her own personal well-being and until the Universe sent her an unmistakable message she would have continued upon the path she later warned me to take care upon.

When it came my turn to join the rat race of life knowing the journey ahead, she gave me the benefit of her wisdom. "Do your work, but remember that rest is important."

It is better to prevent than to cure. ~ Peruvian Proverb

Recovery is an act of rescue, the act or process of returning to a normal state after a period of difficulty. It is a recapture, a reclamation, a recoupment, a repossession, or retrieval. It is a redemption.

Most of us live in a harried unbalanced way. When we reach the breaking point, we have no awareness of how or where to begin to rebuild our lives in a healthier way.

The Unfolding with Joy Series of books are short reads offered in love as a supportive reminder of the importance of taking pause to note the checks and balances in our lives.

"Recover Yourself!" is the first of the three. As the opening text, it examines what occurs when we come to the end of our rope and we are confronted with the lifestyle choices that resulted in our arrival at our current stress-filled circumstance.

Driving hard and fast toward set goals must be supported by a healthy mind, body, and spirit. You have a right to personal achievement. You have a right to personal well-being. You have a right to feel good along the journey. Use what you find here to shift your focus and unfold into that space of returning to peace, clarity, and joy ever increasing.

Seek balance moving forward and handle your state of being with care.

It's All In Your Mind

"The energy of the mind is the essence of life."
~ Aristotle

If you tracked your thoughts for a day you would be both pleased and proud and shocked and horrified at the non stop free floating stream of imaginings.

Our experiences are a manifestation of the pattern of our thought life. Monitoring our thinking is as essential as the quality of our food, air, water, and our experience of love.

We become what we think about.

"It's all in your mind." ~ George Harrison

Several times each week I do a mind dump on paper. Once I'm done, I tear the paper to bits, toss it and burn it. This helps me cast away most of which is of little importance and beyond my control. I find this release helps me disengage and gives my grey matter a better chance at overnight rejuvenation.

"Looking at the beauty in the world is the first step of purifying the mind." ~ Amit Ray

I begin each morning with a few minutes of quiet observance. Noting my emotional temperature, I offer gratitude and set my intention as I prepare to meet the responsibilities of the day. The decision to monitor my thoughts more closely has had profound effect on my transformation journey.

Clarity of thought breeds clarity of purpose. The peace you are seeking is all in your mind.

Are you making time to evaluate the quality of your thought life?

"A man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind." ~ James Allen

Just Above Water

"You don't drown because you can't breathe. You drown because you try to breathe what is not breathable."
~ Katherine Catmull

As fast-paced as my days can be, each year with the Holidays approaching, my focus leans toward projects I am convinced I must get done before the first carol is sung.

An indication of this period of stress and heightening anxiety is shallow breathing as
like most moms I often find myself in the middle of an ocean of obligations that hardly my two hands alone can meet.

Without fail, I get overwhelmed and begin feeling like a failure as the heaviness of the fear of not working it all in takes hold of my ankles and threatens to pull me under. My struggle to dog paddle and keep my nose just above water turns fear into the paralysis of stagnation.

The Holidays should be an enjoyable time balanced between self-care and responsibilities to work, family, and friends. When I feel myself sinking, I remember that I am in control of how much I determine to take on. Fortunately, I am learning to resist the urge to take on more than twenty-four hours can reasonably sustain.

As the weeks get shorter, try to maintain awareness of what you have already planned to take on and have a standard "no" ready for prompt delivery.

The priority of self-care applies daily and more so during the holidays.

Plan ahead and weigh that which is most important against what is not. If it is not a necessity, consider releasing it. Ask for help and consider delegating a few tasks you have taken on in the past. Determine to spend at least one hour each day focused in your breath and what you need to feel and be well.

Treat your "me time" as sacred and protect it without guilt or regret.

Have you begun to experience that sinking feeling of overwhelm?
What tasks can you release or delegate?
What is your self-care plan for keeping your head above water this year?

"Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?"
~ Luke 6:42

It's a difficult look, but a necessary one. There are always lessons to be gleaned vicariously and it's far more tempting to get caught up in drama outside of our own lives.

However, the true pearls of wisdom are the ones presented through our personal experiences.

Become your own best teacher and learn your lessons well.

The Beauty of Choices

"Happiness, like unhappiness, is a proactive choice." ~ Stephen R. Covey

Choice is empowering. However, the beauty of choice is often clouded in the overwhelm when there are so many options incoming.

Maintaining balance in daily living is imperative to happiness and our decision making process either liberates or paralyzes us. We should always be journeying toward the expansion of our peace.

There are "must do" tasks in life, but how we accomplish them determines the level of freedom we create by the execution of our choices. This requires we become less distracted and lean in to the challenge of determining what lessons our options present.

The beauty of choice is that we can decide between creating increased life or lack and it is just that; our choice. If we are spinning our wheels in the glorification of staying busy we may look productive, but we become less effective over time and our lives are less joy filled.

Each decision broadens the path to expanded options leading to more opportunities for seeking and creating more freedom. To grow in awareness of your process is to become more mindful in your decision making.

True freedom awaits and it is always yours for the making.

Do your decisions liberate or paralyze you?
Are you mindful of how your decision making process is affecting your peace?
What tasks have you used to distract you from taking charge of your choices?

It's the Weekend Baby!

"I am always happy to meet my friend, and my friend is my weekend. ~ Debasish Mridha

Weekends used to mean chores, homework, and no matter how late I partied with friends on Saturday night, church on Sunday. These days there is a broader range of responsibility to squeeze into forty-eight hours.

Most of us welcome the weekend as the chance to get done things we rarely have time to accomplish during the work week. Depending on personality and the current levels of busy, most fall into the pace that is most pressing at the time.

The decision to "do nothing" or "to get everything done" can weigh heavily.

"I shall use my time." ~ Jack London

With each new day, the Creator's wisdom provides the freedom to choose how we spend our energy; concentrating our breath toward meaningful moments between work and play. The weekend is a good time for 'catch up' but is also ideal for recovery and restoration from the stress of the week.

I value a couple days of 'catch up', but I also look forward to slowing down for purpose filled self-care with balanced energy toward rest, self-discovery, and pruning.

Make time to just be this weekend. Be with yourself. Be in your breath. Sit alone in the shade of the tree you have planted and have now become

Inhale and explore the colors of your changing leaves and exhale to discover the possibilities of new seed yet to be planted.

Trust that it will be time and breath well spent.

Do you welcome the weekend?
What purpose have your weekends been serving?
Have you set your intention for how you will spend this forty-eight hours?

Purpose Filled Losses

"Beloved I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." ~ 3 John 1:2

Suffering and loss has always been part of the human journey, however, twenty four hour media keeps us on overload with continuous bad news incoming.

As a result, the fear of loss is amplified in the present whether or not we are truly in the midst of a personal crisis.

It can take many years of hard work and sacrifice to build a life of accomplishment, but faith in our success must not override our gratitude, our compassion, or our humility.

"What I feared has come upon me: what I dreaded has happened to me." ~ Job 3:25

The Book of Job lends insight into the experience of loss, faith, and restoration. When we meet him, Job is confronting fear as a trilogy of terror; failing health, sudden tragedies befalling his children and the loss of all that he owns.

Fear of loss is paralyzing and prevents the experience of joy in present moments. Lessons in loss, even trials we deem to be unfair and fail to understand provide the potential for blessings in mind, body, and spirit.

Ways of thinking and states of being are often shaken and broken away in order for new breakthroughs in our evolvement to be born.

Our faith in our Creator and our humanity toward others must develop as well and the Universe has ways to keep us mindful of this truth.

"But we all , with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the fear of the Lord." ~ 2 Corinthians 3:18

The one thing Job clung to without falter was his faith that the Creator knew full well what He was doing even when Job could not understand. "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him," became his mantra through all that he endured.

He believed there was purpose and rebuilding in things ripped away.

When we are focused on God's will to bless us and grow us from glory to glory, we can trust that there is evolvement through overcoming.

Seek purpose in your losses.

How are you evolving through crisis?
Are you growing in gratitude, compassion, and humility in equal measure to your successes?
In whom or what have you placed absolute faith and trust?

The Thirst Is Real

"We will drink what we thirst for and eat what we hunger for if we allow ourselves to be used for what we were created for!" ~ Israelmore Ayivor

Current pop culture says, 'The thirst is real.'

This saying has taken hold across social media platforms, film banter, and sitcom dialogues. It is an especial favorite of reality television programs.

"Desires are what can most easily ruin us, lovely."
~ Simona Panova

Our thoughts are tell tale signs of what we desire most at the deeper levels. Some crave career success, others money, homes, cars, a spouse, and even babies. The list of wants is endless.

Upon that which we place highest priority presents most profoundly in our daily stream of thinking. My main concern is the safety of my children and I find myself offering brief prayers of protection over them at various intervals.

Of course, I think about my work and ways to mindfully express messages of healing and forward movement that fellow travelers can apply in principle as well. All of which I feel called to do and I sense no resistance to incoming inspiration to pursue.

"I incessantly look for water in wells dug by men, and I have drunk enough sand to prove it."
~ Craig D. Lounsbrough

Thoughts are powerful and reflecting upon 'thirst' in universal context applies to each of us as co-creators.

Our dominant thoughts are what we lend the most energy toward and if not aligned with universal purpose, our thirsts can make us behave in irrational ways. Allowing 'thirst' to overtake and drive energies toward something never intended is depleting and can have devastating effects on our well being.

"What God Has For Me It Is For Me" is a favorite song and a useful mantra for guiding my energies. If it's intended for me, it will meet my experience joyfully.

Chasing a thing will not matter if it is not intended from the Creator.

Seeking the Creator's will first syncs us to the natural universal flow of His wisdom and manifests peace in our lives.

Check your thirst.

What is the 'thirst' driving you toward?
Is your 'thirst' born of ego desire or the Creator's will?
Has that which you have been chasing been adding to your peace or depleting it?

"Spiritual hunger and spiritual thirst; but you gotta change it on the inside first, to be satisfied." ~ Van Morrison

The Right Questions

"For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth, to know the worst and to provide for it." ~ Patrick Henry

The Universe always asks the right questions.

Just as I watch my children leave for school each morning, I believe I attend class each day via curriculum set by the Creator of all things.

Many experiences are unique in their aspects, though others, not so much. The ups and downs of professional and family life, loss of loved ones, and health crises, though more general in their forms, invites us to lean forward when presented.

"For the wise have always known that no one can make much of his life until self-searching has become a regular habit until he is able to admit and accept what he finds, and until he patiently and persistently tries to correct what is wrong." ~ Bill W.

Whether or not we are paying attention in class determines the quality of our opportunity for growth within a lesson.

Challenge through change is a necessary exchange to prepare for promotion into new levels. With a successful pruning course of instruction, we can endeavor to become better students.

Each test evaluates how well we are being transformed into the image of the Divine.

Lean in to the lessons as the Universe presents them. As you become more attentive in class, the questions being asked peel back the layers to reveal your best self.

Your better and better is limitless.

"We have to do one of the most revolting things possible, we have to face ourselves."
~ Craig D. Lounsbrough

What questions has the Universe been calling to your attention?
Have you been resisting listening for the answers to important questions?
Are you willing to permit the lesson of each experience?

"EGO means attachment to layers of our unexamined thoughts and illusions. We avoid self-inquiry because it shatters our belief system and false image." Aditya Ajmera

Winter Is Coming

"You are the sky. Everything else -- it's just the weather." ~ Pema Chodron

The winter months can be a difficult time for those who wrestle with depression.

As the days shorten the struggle against a deep desire for hibernation is all too real and remaining engaged and emotionally available for work, family and friends can become an uphill crawl.

Life is an ongoing series of highs and lows. Our preference, of course, would be to live in perpetual high-flying moods where all the traffic lights are green, printers never jam or run out of ink, and the house magically stays clean.

Fortunately, tough times never last. Each of us has an individual rhythmic tide and the challenge is learning to live well within the flow of it.

"You cannot protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness."
~ Jonathan Safran Foer

Some of us need a little more rest than others.

Viewing the lower tides as a gift from the Universe allows a necessary slow down to focus on self-care. These emotional pit stops are an opportunity to rest weary limbs and continue the journey in a more joy-filled way.

For me, downtime devoted to meditating, journaling, and sunlight sitting elevates my mood and encourages a stronger emergence of increased clarity. Hibernating in this new way makes for quicker recovery from a sinking episode of overwhelming hopelessness spent hiding in darkness beneath a pile of blankets.

Winter is coming. It's time to choose a method of healing over hiding during the low tides.

Decide to rest well. It will be spring soon.

"The walls we build around us to keep sadness out also keeps out the joy." ~ Jim Rohn

How can you repurpose your down times to serve as a pause for healing?

Moving Through Change With Grace

"All human nature vigorously resists grace because grace changes us and the change is painful."
~ Flannery O'Connor

The intensity of change presents in our lives through various means.

'Make your peace with it,' my grandmother would often say.

Just when you believe you have every aspect of your life situated to your liking, it happens. Recall the well known serenity, courage, and wisdom mantra penned by Niebuhr?

Change is to be expected and accepting change as part of the journey is key. Still, while learning to cope with this inevitability is imperative, cultivating the grace necessary to move through is achievable.

"Grace is amazing because God has a right to demand anything of us, but instead God offers something to us." ~ Colin Smith

Changes in life occur with the purpose of shifting us into the healthier state of wholeness in mind, body, and spirit.

The challenges hidden in change are calls to become better; to transform in ways that make us assets to humanity and the greater good in the Creator's divine plan.

Resistance stagnates the evolving of our lives from glory to glory and limits our ability to expand our existence in ways born of the Creator's abundant love for each of us.

God wants to bless us and is always preparing us for greater levels of ever increasing joy. Invite change through faith with grace and embrace it as it reveals itself in your life.

Celebrate every opportunity for growth and new beginnings. Start today!

Ripples of Purpose

"We are here but for a second, but our impact ripples through time." ~ Neetal Perekh

God has a purpose for our lives and we are always creating from His initial breath. Each inhale is granted as the first step toward possibility and it is our choice to live within His intention or not. Either way, the breath of life is finite within the earth plane as eventually, we all return to stardust to be repurposed in the Creator's plan.

"When we focus our energies towards constructing a passionate meaningful life, we are tossing a pebble into the world, creating a beautiful ripple effect of inspiration." ~ Christine Mason Miller

Our choices affect our "becoming" and will define our legacy.

I see my children as my greatest contribution. The thought that becoming a mother would be part of the Creator's purpose as flow along His creative continuum continues to amaze me. As extensions of the Breath born through me, my son and daughter have become my eyes, ears, legs, hands, and heart. I stand in awe to reflect upon the idea of them as they were born to fulfill the continued purpose of God's intention.

I know that the person I am determines what I pour into my children and will create ripples of a profound impact upon creation and so through both trial and error, trusting in the Enlightenment of God I offer the best my human frailty can provide.

We are all gainfully employed by some endeavor either consciously or otherwise. If my decisions had not led to my becoming a mother, I would still need to consider the works to which I have committed my hands, head, and heart. It is our choice as to where we lend our energies and to what purpose our ripples of impact are being given while we are here.

All are called, none are immune, all will be held accountable.

Almighty God has breathed life force energy into each of us. Consider all that is unfolding from your Being. Let us be ever mindful of our ripples as they vibrate out and across the continuum of Creation.

Thus far, what do you believe to be your greatest contribution to creation?
In what ways are your choices influencing your "becoming"?
What will be the legacy of your "ripples"?

"Some of us will make tiny ripples and others will send waves crashing, but each one will change the surface of the water forever." ~ Robin Dance

Recover Yourself!

Introduction

"Learning to live with the mess of life is great spiritual work." ~ Jo Hilder

"Thank God it's Friday!"

This familiar four-word refrain is understood across cultures. For those balancing the responsibilities of work, school, family, second jobs, and side-gigs, the anticipation of Friday carries the weight of the entire work week.

Commitment to our work is imperative, however, we must also make self-care a priority. If the mind is not well, we are without clarity. If the body is sick, our daily functioning is limited, and if we are weak spiritually, we are unable to receive guidance.

Attempts at living within imbalance carries steep consequences over the long term.

When attention is not paid to mini glitches in the matrix of life the rope seen as a lifeline gets thin, frays and eventually breaks. This can lead to incapacity and the ability to operate at maximum capacity for giving in our service to humanity through our work becomes distorted.

She never slowed down and an attack on her brain was the ultimate result. The reward for a young life committed to hard work in hard times were three strokes that left her paralyzed on her left side and unable to speak. When she woke up in the hospital she saw her husband and their three young children staring down at her and all were terrified.

"That's when I knew," she'd said, "I knew that whatever it took, I had to get out of that bed. My family needed me. I was barely alive, but I had to live for them."

"Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions are searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us."
~ Dr. Maya Angelou

"You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that. Claim and consciously use your power." ~ Louise L. Hay

Recovery is defined as the act, process, or an instance of recovering. It is the process of combating a disorder or a real or perceived problem. It is a recapture, a reclamation, a recoupment, a repossession, or retrieval.

Recovery is an act of rescue, the act or process of returning to a normal state after a period of difficulty. It is a redemption.

The Unfolding with Joy Series are short reads offered in love as a supportive reminder of the importance of taking pause to note the checks and balances in our lives.

Most of us live in such a harried unbalanced way that when we reach the breaking point, we have no awareness of how or where to begin to rebuild our lives from the inside and purpose toward getting back in the game of life in a healthier way.

I'm So Overwhelmed!

"When you give yourself permission to communicate what matters to you in every situation you will have peace despite rejection or disapproval. Putting a voice to your soul helps you to let go of the negative energy of fear and regret." ~ Shannon L. Adler

I like the peace of quiet.

My experience with sound tends to be emotional. Sound moves through me intuitively whether the experience is pleasant or not. It always has and I suppose many dancers are this way.

My children set records in bickering this week. Each Hallmark hall of fame moment they shared ended in an argument. The experience became equal to the sound, chaotic and shrill. Nothing was being resolved because no one was listening, so I joined in the dance in a powerful way and shut down the circus.

Normally, I can detach well enough for them to work it out on their own, but this week was busy; like the dog chasing its tail getting dizzier by the moment kind of busy.

I had met my edge.

I was relieved in the moment because the bickering stopped, however, I was left with regret that I had chosen to react when I should have paused and taken a breath before responding.

If the holidays are the most hectic time of year, approaching the end of a school year is a close second. Science competitions, summer program applications, rehearsals, spring concerts, exams, field trips and the like all culminate in an epic swirl of over scheduled activity.

"We are stronger when we listen, and smarter when we share." ~ Rania Al-Abdullah

Overwhelm is a great equalizer among us. We see it coming yet it's ability to launch sneak attacks is still maintained. My go to coping mechanism is meditation. In the silence of my being I can permit all frustration known and unknown to work its way up and I can decide the issues which require examining and those in need of releasing.

Energy begets energy and the more quiet seed I plant the more peace and quiet I will manifest in my daily existence
.

My children are still loud, they will still bicker and we are still overwhelmed. But next week, will find me more aware and better equipped to manage.

I will be ready.

The Gems of Gratitude

"If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough." ~ Meister Eckhart

Living in a spirit of thanksgiving is transformative in that it keeps our energy focused on the good and therefore, more good is manifested.

I spent last weekend on the coast with close friends and it was glorious. We ate, we drank, we related stories new and old. And though it was cold outside, the warmth of friendship reunion was present as a force of love and healing.

Being near the ocean and the spirit of Yemeya balances my energies in ways I have yet to find words to describe. I am always alert with anticipation for any messages she might send subtle or otherwise and as I lay quietly watching the sunrise she spoke to me one word.

Gratitude.

"When you are grateful, fear disappears and abundance appears." ~ Anthony Robbins

I am grateful to the Creator for allowing the ancestors to speak such timely reminders into my earthly experience. When I left the coast it was cold and snowing, but I carried home with me new memories of love and laughter with friends to warm the heart of my temple and keep me vibrating higher and higher.

I am truly thankful.

How is the energy of gratitude manifesting in your life?

Balance Is Not An Option

"Life is a balance between what we can control and what we cannot. I am learning to live between effort and surrender." ~ Danielle Orner

We live within a perpetual rise and grind.

Some spring out of bed while others choose a slower approach to getting started and hit the snooze button countless times until they have to get moving.

It is a less taxing experience when you only have to move yourself and remember to feed the cats before hitting the door. However, the demands upon stage managers attending to dawn dog walking duty, while moving spouses, tweens and teens yelling last minute reminders yet still rushing to make yourself presentable is especially tough on the energies.

My experience was the latter. At times, I found myself squinting as my family tossed their breakfast dishes into the sink and dashed out the door, that is if they didn't miss the "Big Yellow" which in turn left me running late. And I could have sworn my washer and dryer were actually making clothes.

"To be whole simply requires paying attention to oneself." ~ Gary Hopkins

As a counselor, I take a holistic approach to supporting clients, addressing their concerns from the threefold perspective of mind, body, and spirit health, encouraging them to engage in self checks for personal well being.

When I performed my own self check-ins, I discovered that the most pervasive emotion I experienced was anger. A brooding just below the surface that always caught in my throat.

"True healing will only occur when we are acknowledging all aspects of ourselves."
~ Kate Reardon

To conduct a quick self check-in to determine how we feel each morning assists us in setting the tone for each day. Most issues presented have roots in hard core resistance to the acceptance of reality. The truth is mornings are hectic, so are afternoons for that matter. Knowing this and accepting this can help bring balance to our habit of resisting.

The familiar serenity prayer comes to mind. Knowledge and acceptance of the difference between the things we can change and those things we cannot is the path to peace and freedom.

"Renew energy, revive strength." ~ Laila Gifty Akita

You have a right to well being and if you are not at peace, start on the inside to figure out why. When you wake each morning, engage yourself emotionally. Breathe deeply into the current experience of self and accept what can and cannot be changed.

Keep breathing and embrace the clarity that will come and enable you to take right actions in addressing your needs grounded in reality based expectations.

Ground yourself in the truths of your experiences and seek clarity from there. Invite the necessary peace that encourages your threefold personal well being and determine to "be well".

Balance is not an option.

Does your approach to your daily rise and grind have you out of balance?
How are you setting the tone for your day each morning?
What are the things that can be changed in your life? What are the things that cannot?

Intentional Peace

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." ~ John 14:27

Before ascending, Yeshua bequeathed to us His peace and it is my desire to live each moment of my life in the spirit of that intention.

As 2011 proved to be one of the worst years of my life, 2016 threw salt in wounds still yet mending. With the reset energy of 2017, I am reminded of this holy gift.

A peace that surpasses all understanding is always available, despite what's happening around me, as a conscious choice to shift toward this promise.

"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without." ~ Buddha

World peace is a phrase both praised as a utopian goal and relegated to the expected answer from pageant contestants across the globe. The challenge during times of trouble is to intend peace from within and in turn give it energy to vibrate outward.

"When a thing disturbs the peace of your heart, give it up." ~ Prophet Muhammad

My state of personal well being is one born of wholeness with the Creator. His pitcher of living water exists in abundance and from it my temple cup is filled. God as my Source and supply meets every need in the physical, emotional, and spiritual.

Anything or anyone incoming in the earth plane must be an asset to the fullness of love, peace, and joy that God provides.

"Our intention creates our reality." ~ Dr. Wayne Dyer

I seek inner peace as a constant state of being and I intend to entertain the same in my outer environment. Disturbances to the contrary are discouraged and unwelcome in any form as I commit to wholeness.

I intend peace.

How would you define peace?
What or whom do you seek your peace from or within?
How do you deal with peace disturbances?

"If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else." ~ Marvin Gaye

Terms of Disclosure

"To share your weakness is to make yourself vulnerable; to make yourself vulnerable is to show your strength."
~ Criss Jami

Disclosure is applied to the helping relationship when it is of greatest benefit to a client. For example, telling a student struggling in math, that I too, found the subject difficult in school is an appropriate means of sharing.

My role is to support clients in peeling back their layers and effectively support their healing and I never permit a compromise on authenticity or avoidance of identifying true intention.

"Tell the truth about any situation and you are delivered from lack of progress, but if you become hypocritical or lying, you may be in bondage for life." ~ Auliq-Ice

Although, best practice places limitations on self disclosure in professional relationships, in personal relationship interactions, sharing takes on a different context.

True and lasting intimacy cannot be achieved without honest self disclosure at deeper levels
It plays against any advantage to self or another to intentionally false advertise, unless of course, the goal is a sinister one.

"It takes strength and courage to admit the truth." ~ Rick Riordan

The only way to see our wounds clearly is through focused energy applied to the task of personal excavation of the most authentic version of self. An effective helping professional lives in a constant state of evolvement, as well.

Commitment to honest self disclosure breeds increasing enlightenment and a life grounded in truth of universal purpose.

Love yourself and your fellow travellers enough to leave no internal stone unturned.

What version of yourself have you been presenting in personal relationships?
Does revealing the truest version of self to others frighten you? Why? Why not?
Have you been willing to examine yourself realistically at the deepest levels of vulnerability?

"We have to dare to be ourselves, however frightening or strange that self may prove to be."
~ Mary Sarton
